Integral Yoga
Integral Yoga is the complete Yoga that integrates all aspects of life and maintains our natural condition of an easeful body, peaceful mind and useful life. For over thirty years, students from all over the world have come to spend one month in residence to participate in this program.
Integral Yoga® Hatha Teacher Training is a comprehensive, month-long program that teaches you the skills necessary to instruct Integral Yoga Hatha Beginners I. This basic class, taught to thousands of students at Integral Yoga Institutes and around the world, is utilized by Dr. Dean Ornish in his groundbreaking work in reversing heart disease. The Beginners I class consists of asanas (Yoga poses), deep relaxation, pranayama (breathing practices), chanting, and meditation. You will receive training in teaching all the aspects of this class. The Integral Yoga approach is suitable for complete beginners and is taught in an easeful, highly meditative manner. The student is guided to a deep level of physical and mental well-being, vitality, and relaxation, promoting flexibility, strength, and health for the entire system.
Sri Swami Satchidananda described Integral Yoga as:
"... a flexible combination of specific methods to develop every aspect of the individual: physical, intellectual, and spiritual. It is a scientific system which integrates the various branches of Yoga in order to bring about a complete and harmonious development of the individual." |
| "I thought this place was the best learning environment I've ever experienced. Through attaining our goal of becoming a certified teacher, I felt guided, nurtured, and encouraged." - Program Participant |

Why A Residential Program?
The most effective teaching that can be shared comes from direct, personal experience. Our Teacher Training Program is designed to offer you the experience of living the teachings of Yoga and to present the necessary tools that will enable you to pass these great teachings on to others. During your stay you will immerse yourself in the Yogic lifestyle and transform your body, mind and spirit. Our residential programs offer a supportive and nurturing environment for practice and study away from the distractions of everyday life.
What You Will Learn
You will receive instruction in the Integral Yoga approach to teaching Hatha Yoga. You will be taught how to give clear, concise instructions for each posture, with the benefits, and how to lead students in deep relaxation, breathing practices, chanting and meditation. You will also study and practice the different aspects of Integral Yoga, including meditation, breathing practices, chanting, selfless service, Yoga philosophy, and more. When you graduate, you will have the necessary knowledge and experience to stand before a group and teach a class with confidence and ease.
What Makes Integral Yoga Unique?
Integral Yoga is a complete science that cultivates and maintains the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health of the individual. The non-competitive approach and meditative exploration of the practices of Integral Yoga create an indrawn awareness allowing the student to come in touch with deeper and more subtle aspects of their being.
Our comprehensive certification programs provide a strong foundation for personal and spiritual development, an appreciation for nurturing your own practice and the skills for you to become a knowledgeable and professional Yoga Teacher. The Integral Yoga training process naturally fosters the sensitivities to help you create a safe environment where your students will feel free to realize their own potential, gaining respect for themselves and a greater capacity to be of service to others.
The Integral Yoga® system of Hatha Yoga is utilized by Dr. Dean Ornish in his book, Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease.
The Trainers
Spring Session, April 18 - May 16, 2010
Swami Asokananda
Swami Asokananda is one of our most senior presenters. A monk for over 30 years, he has the look of an ascetic, but the twinkle in his eye and his quick, down-to-earth wit show his New York City roots and his three decades of study with the great Yoga master Sri Swami Satchidananda.
An excellent Hatha Yogi, he has been one of our main Teacher Training instructors for over 25 years. He helped to develop and facilitates our Intermediate and Advanced Integral Yoga Hatha Teacher Training programs, which he has taught to students in many parts of the world.
He is also a scholar of the Bhagavad Gita. His popular classes and workshops on this great Indian scripture make it accessible and useful to modern spiritual seekers.
Dijon Carew
Dijon Carew has studied, practiced and taught Yoga for over twenty years. In 1987 he received his first teacher training certification and now teaches all levels of Hatha Yoga. He presently teaches and leads teacher trainings at Satchidananda Ashram-Yogaville. For four years he was the head of teachers and the lead teacher trainer at the Integral Yoga® Institute of San Francisco. Dijon has taught workshops in the U.S. and abroad.

Satya Greenstone
Satya Greenstone has been a student of Sri Swami Satchidananda for 38 years. Throughout this time she has shared the teachings of Integral Yoga in many diverse settings with students of all ages and backgrounds.
In 1978, she and her husband started the Yogaville Vidyalayam - Temple of Learning, an elementary school for the ashram community children. For 17 years they taught the children, developing a full academic curriculum based on the principles and teachings of Yoga.
Since 1999 she has been a primary teacher for the Integral Yoga Basic Teacher Training course. She combines a natural, practical, down to earth approach to yoga with a gentle humor. She is a yogini first and foremost, and her teaching is an extension of the experience of her yoga practice.
"The residential Teacher Training course is a direct gift from Sri Gurudev, Swami Satchidananda. He always said that one should become a Yogi first. It is the most profound program offered at Yogaville, because people come and live the Yogic lifestyle and their lives are transformed. It is very powerful and I love to be a part of it." - Satya Greenstone

It is suggested for those unfamiliar with Integral Yoga Hatha to take some basic Integral Yoga Hatha classes preferably at an Integral Yoga Institute, Center, or from an Integral Yoga teacher. Information on Integral Yoga teachers in your area can be obtained from the online Teachers Directory or by contacting the Integral Yoga Teachers Association at (434) 969 3121 ext. 177. If this is not possible, you may purchase the DVD, Yoga With a Master or the Integral Yoga Hatha I on CD from Shakticom or from Integral Yoga Distribution at (800) 262-1008 and practice with that.
